In the south of the town, there are two of the traditional Canarian windmills used to grind the grain and which are indicative of the island. At least one of these was still in working use up to 20 years ago and it is still inhabited.
Local evening entertainment is quiet with a sprinkling of good restaurants and bars, but live music can be regularly seen in at least one venue during the weekends and Larjares hosts a number of festivals throughout the year including the Fuerteventura Jazz Festival which attracts some of the best jazz musicians throughout Europe.
Lajares has in recent years become a popular location for foreign residents to settle and quite a few new villas are springing up here, in both traditional and contemporary styles. To view properties available in this area and other local villages in the La Oliva area, double click here.
