Property for Sale in Pajara, Fuerteventura
Pájara is one of the largest municipalities in both Fuerteventura and the Province of Gran Canaria. with its tiny population is hailed as one of the prettiest towns because of the abundance of greenery and the quaint leafy town square. The church, Iglesia Nuestra Senora de la Regla was built between 1687 and 1711 and is extremely decorative with the beautiful and famous portal in Mexican baroque design with traces of Aztec influence and a menagerie of stone carvings as well as the Arabic Mudejar style ceiling.
If you bear right on the main road out of Pájara towards the coast, and driving off road along the dirt track you will find the small village of Ajuy and nearby Puerto del la Peńa, a small intimate fishing settlement nestling between the rugged cliffs and the deep black fine sand on the beach itself. The sea here appears aqua and the effect is stunning, but don’t be fooled these waters are not for swimmers. Nearby caves of limestone acted as secret treasure chests for pirates’ booty, giving the whole area a romantic, sultry feel.
This area of the Pájara municipality is indeed remote and isolated, but also in many ways magical and regal, lending credence to the claim of astral worship, practised by the early Gaunche inhabitants.
