Property for Sale in Tindaya - Fuerteventura

Tindaya, afew miles outside of La Oliva, we start our ascent towards the mountains and shortly take a left, sharply descending towards the village of Tindaya at the base of the 401m mountain of the same name. Tindaya is not a tourist area, but is reported to have some of the prettiest and remote beaches on the island nearby. The exact locations from the village remain a closely guarded secret by the locals, who often refuse politely but firmly to give directions to passers-by. It should be noted however, that all the beaches are only accessible by dirt track.
Tindaya is famous for two things; firstly the mountain has surrendered evidence of aboriginal pre-Hispanic (Gaunche) cultures in the form of over 250 engravings and several containers decorated with incised lunar cycles (some sections of the Gaunches were known to worship astrological forces). Secondly, some of the flora that the mountain supports is endemic only to this area, which prompted statutory protection under the Council of Europe’s Treaty of 1991 for the Conservation of Wildlife and Natural Habitats. This did not however, deter world famous sculptor Eduardo Chillida from a project to remove the inside of the mountain and produce a gigantic cube of space in which man could stand and appreciate his insignificance in the vastness of the world around him and perhaps therefore learn to tolerate his surroundings. Chillida, born 1924 has since died before realising his dream, but his family and heirs continue to press for the dream to become a reality, despite fierce resistance from a number of national and international ecological conservation groups.
